Description
The Oidhreacht Eochaille (The Heritage of Youghal) CD is a celebration of Youghal (Co. Cork Ireland) and the surrounding area in Irish traditional music and song.
The CD is a collection of 15 wonderful tunes, the majority composed specifically for this project. It includes the moving and emotional song ‘McGrath’s Clock Gate’ which tells the story of John McGrath and his time growing up in Youghal’s world famous Clock Gate. The CD sleeve contains a wealth of information about each tune in both English and Irish.
The CD, officially launched on 22nd February 2020, is a culmination of a year-long project in conjunction with “A Louth Lilt” musicians Daithí Kearney and Adèle Commins, both based at Dundalk Institute of Technology to bring the stories and history of the area to life. It is the very first CD from the performing group of Youghal Comhaltas – Ceolta Sí.
